 The
Castle Area Campaign Group successfully fought against the City of York
Council to stop the building of the ugly Coppergate II shopping mall next
to the scheduled ancient monument of Clifford's Tower and the Castle Museum
in York, England.
The
citizens of York, cheered on by heritage fans around the world, and with
the support of York Civic Trust defeated this appalling planning proposal
in a public inquiry in 2003 after the Council had given permission for
it to go ahead.
